On November 11th, Veteran's Day, @ 12:10 AM, Akshay Jordan Gaylor decided it was time to come into the world. He tried to come on November 7th but the doctors were able to stop him until they could get his lungs matured. He weighed in @ 3 pounds and 5 ounces and was 40 cm (roughly 15.75 inches). He was only 31 weeks and 4 days, so he went straight to the NICU @ Mercy San Juan, where he was born.
The doctors have no known cause for his early arrival, Mommy was not a high risk candidate and she was not on any medications or herbs that would cause premature labor. The doctors stated there was nothing she could or could not do to prevent her water from breaking which happened on November 7th.
As of today 11/20/2009, he is weighing in @ 3 pounds and 9 ounces. He is currently being monitored as most babies his size/age but is not on any breathing assistance or nutrient assistance. He is still a little young for normal feeding so he is being fed breastmilk through a tube in his nose.
At this time we are hoping for a Holiday arrival to our home but have not been told anything but expect him home by his expected birthdate, Jan 8th, 2010.
We will keep everyone posted on his status here and will post pictures as soon as I get them from Akshay's Grandma.
